In creating surface layers, start by coloring the base layer color. Click on this twice to bring up the color selector. Then, set the 'bumpiness' at something that will give you the roughness, or smoothness you are looking for. You will also set the 'mimic terrain' as well. Both of these settings apply for all laters as well.
Now, start adding your surface layers. Always start with the logical: 1st layer adding the topsoil color, texture and coverage; 2nd layer would be topsoil highlights; 3rd layer, add pebbles, 4th layer add gravel; 5th layer add sand. Now, you will add the 6th vegetation layers; using as many as three or more layers of different colors to represent grass, bushes and trees. Remember that one layer will cover another; so, 'coverage should become progressively smaller with each new layer.
What I have stated here is basic. You can set layers at different numerical levels; but, for starters, work with these basics to get the feel of working with surface layers. |
